On Friday, 27th May 2016, Whitmore hosted Vikram Yadh from Affordable Science to conduct the “Pasta Car Challenge”. Every class in the school, from Nursery to Year 6 (with the exception of Year 3, who were on a trip), undertook the challenge to design a wheeled vehicle from dried pasta that would travel the furthest distance in the hall after being released down a short ramp. The winners were Niyazi, David, Hezekiah and Joseph from Tan Class (year 5) with an incredible distance of 4 m 88 cm. It is worth noting that the current record (after 5 years of the “Pasta Car Challenge” in the UK) is just 5m 5cm. This was the third longest distance ever recorded in the UK!
